South Coast Tour Concerts

30 October 2006

We sang three numbers accompanied by Karen at the keyboard and two - Finlandia and The American Trilogy - with the Band. The first Concert was in Narooma on Saturday night, at the Sports and Services Club. The Band had been 'on the road' since Wednesday and had already performed at Bega and Merimbula to large and appreciative audiences. They were in the groove. This Concert was a fund-raiser for the surf life savers.

The Sunday Concert at the Bay was at the High School in the afternoon, and was a terrific success. The choir was invited in to the final number - a sustained and rousing Hey Jude - and to the encore - I still call Australia home. Our numbers were relatively modest - twenty four - but the performances were great. The Concert was a Rotary fund-raiser to sponsor two indigenous students to walk the Kakoda Track.

Practically the whole gang stayed at the Ecotel in Narooma on Saturday night, so there was some conviviality there - including breakfast together in the morning. A good number of wives and partners came along for the trip and sat in on one or more of the Concerts.

In between the two big Concerts with the Band, we called in at the Dalmeny Retirement Village and Nursing Home, as we did last year. Whiskas excelled himself as the stand in baton-person, and Karen on the keyboard.

Great to work with such a superb Band - a pleasure and a privilege for us!
