Music Directorship Change

The announcement was distributed on Monday that your committee had decided to make a change of Musical Director after an association of more than nine years with Andrea Clifford. As advised, a sub-committee is currently dealing with a recommendation for a new MD and that announcement is expected to be made in the next few weeks.

The sub-committee will also liaise with Andrea about organising a major celebration, recognition and testimonial event early in 2012 in her honour. Numerous accolades have already accumulated about the significant contribution by Andrea to the ARC. Members will be encouraged to participate in the testimonial event when it is finalised so watch this Warble space in 2012 for those details. more »

Members Update

Superman McInnis has been brought back from the brink once again by the magicians at the Canberra Hospital. I had a long talk with him yesterday and Ken expects to be present at both the Sunday London practice and then the following Tuesday night. As the details of his treatment continue to sound like the stuff of fiction, it will be more efficient that he recount his travails over liquid refreshment after practice. It will be great to see Ken back yet again.

Val Cupitt, I saw Darryl today. He advises that Val did not have a heart attack. Tests are continuing, including an angiogram to determine what is causing her blood pressure to fluctuate so violently. I assured him that our thoughts are with him and Val.

Paul Green is recovering from his varicose vein removal and is recovering with his left leg up at home. more »

Members Welfare

Good news on the health front, we were delighted to welcome back Ken McInnis and Paul Gallagher to practice on Tuesday night. Also, Neil Fleming, who underwent surgery on Tuesday morning, is a little sore but progressing well. When visited, he was sitting on a chair with spoon in hand about to tackle his lunch.

Friday 4th November Woden Alive

Thanks to the 20+ who turned up last Thursday at the Tradies for the photo shoot. Although the promised article and photo have not yet materialised in the Canberra Times, on the positive side, ARC members are offered a special rate of $30 per head for the dinner on Friday 4 November.

Already, over 20 tickets have been taken up by our members and their guests. Understand that tables are for 10 and we are trying to arrange some set seating so that we can be together.

Dinner is at 7pm (doors open at 6.30). Andrea, who also hopes to get to the dinner, has asked that we be ready to warm-up NO LATER THAN 9pm, for our scheduled 9.20 on-stage performance.

Those not attending dinner are asked to be available by 9pm. Dress for the concert is the usual chambray shirt and tie. A reminder that the no-alcohol prior to performance rule, needs to observed.

Police Memorial Gig

Well done everyone. It was a very stoic effort by approximately 30(?) members early this evening at the Police Memorial Ceremony.

We are very used to this gig being a challenging event over the years in regard to the elements but I do not think that the rain and breeze kicked in quite as exquisitely as they did tonight to affect the temperature. Timing was good in that we got only slightly moistened rather than soaked. more »

NEXT PRACTICE 20 SEPTEMBER CANCELLED
On the advice of the MD, your committee has agreed to dispense with this practice that immediately follows our Retreat weekend. Her OH&S advice is that following such a weekend of intense voice work it would be detrimental to indulge in a further workout so soon after the weekend.
Therefore, next practice will be Tuesday 27th September at the Tradies as usual. Tradies have been informed. more »

A very good turn out of members, both old bold, and the new members on Tuesday night. I also much mention the attention to detail by members on switching of their mobile phones. Feedback from COTA GIG

Many thanks to approximately 30 members who performed at the COTA gig on Wednesday morning. Notwithstanding a dodgy sounding piano and some confusion as to when Mr Michael Bryce was to be in attendance as Guest of Honour, our three songs were well received.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM was successful and in the words of Our Patron, Col. Ian McLean “this has been the most efficient run” he has attended. He was amazed that as a non-profit organisation we are true to that with a declared profit of $24.

The committee remains the same with Peter “Nails” Naylor replacing David Dixon. Both are very quiet unassuming gentlemen, who strongly support the aims of our Choir. more »
